Delabs Secures $12 Million for Web3 Game Development

Delabs has successfully closed a funding round, raising a total of $12 million for its Web3 game projects. This funding follows the success of its recent playtest for Rumble Racing Star and includes plans for the upcoming $DELABS token launch in 2024.

Funding and Game Development

Delabs, the Web3 branch of the South Korean gaming studio 4:33, has completed a funding round that brings its total capital raised to $12 million. This milestone follows the success of an invitation-only playtest for its kart racing game, Rumble Racing Star. The studio has also released its v1 whitepaper and teased the upcoming launch of its $DELABS token.

Polygon Ventures, an investor in Delabs Games, has praised the team for its ability to blend traditional gameplay with the dynamic potential of Web3 technologies. Delabs is developing multiple projects beyond Rumble Racing Star, including Metabolts, a dystopian RPG that had a successful NFT minting on February 26, and Space Frontier, a shooting game built on Unreal Engine.

Future Plans and Game Features

Delabs is set to launch its $DELABS token in 2024, continuing its expansion into the Web3 gaming space. The studio previously raised $4.7 million in a seed funding round led by Hashed. Currently, Delabs is working on three titles: Rumble Racing Star, Space Frontier, and Metabolts, each designed to cater to different player preferences.

The studio emphasizes accessible design, cross-platform compatibility, and the creation of an esports ecosystem, integrating Web3 features without requiring players to download separate wallets. In Rumble Racing Star, players race using NFTs with unique abilities, while Space Frontier and Metabolts allow for creative control over game elements.

Playtesting and Community Engagement

Delabs conducted its first public playtest for Metabolts from January 22 to 26, targeting holders of the Delabs Adventure Pass and players in Canada, Thailand, and Vietnam. This one-week test aimed to gather player feedback and assess initial gameplay reactions. Metabolts is a narrative RPG set in a collapsing future, focusing on the fallout from a central bank's failure.

CEO Joonmo Kwon described the playtest as crucial for gathering insights to enhance the overall gaming experience. The Delabs Adventure Pass grants early access to the game and connects players across different titles. Kwon believes Web3 games can address issues in traditional gaming by providing players with lasting digital assets and fostering strong relationships between players and developers.

As a key partner of Polygon, Delabs aims to advance Web3 gaming, with Urvit Goel from Polygon Labs noting the collaboration's potential to attract millions of new players and build a community around secure and immersive gaming experiences.
